Agency/Firm's Mission:
Freeing Human Beings from Cages.
Value of the internship to the Agency/Firm:
An intelligent, hard-working, and idealistic legal intern is invaluable.
Value of the internship to the Intern:
It will give the legal intern hands-on experience, which is critical for
students thinking about applying to law school, as well as offer a unique,
behind-the-scenes look at the criminal justice system and its interplay with
fascinating Northern California countercultures.
For example, 2006 intern Abigail Cotterill participated in in camera discussions
with the judge, prosecutor, and other members of the defense in a pro bono case
where we successfully defended a member of the Native American Church accused of
illegal possession and transportation of peyote. Not the usual boring legal
work.
Job Description:
Three to six days a week, 9 to 5 or its equivalent (eg. 11 to 7 for those who
would like to occasionally explore Bay Area nightlife), drafting motions from
templates, organizing files, assisting attorneys with research, interviewing
police misconduct witnesses, and attending court on cases you work on if you
wish.
Management Goals:
Mentoring by full-time attorney Omar Figueroa, BR '92, Stanford Law '96; weekly
oral performance reviews; mellow yet intense work atmosphere.
Special Job Requirements:
Ability to work well with others and excellent writing, research, and
organizational skills.
Additional Information:
Would be willing to consider 3 or sometimes 4 days per week for legal intern who also works as an extern with the California Supreme Court.

Pro bono: stipend for finanacial aid recipients
